I found some AP3s at an excellent price online. This will be an uprade from the DCI oversize + that I have played since 2000! Stiff shafts. 9-10 handicap golfer. I imagine the clubs are listed at such a low price because they are 1 degree flat. AMT Black s300 shafts.

I'm wondering 1) If I'll really notice that 1 degree difference all that much, considering the move from these very old irons to the much newer AP3 and 2) if they don't feel quite right, I can just take them over to my PGA Superstore and have them bent back to zero, right?

Thanks for any thoughts on this. And if I had the resources to get a fitting and buy the perfect set of new irons tailored to my exact swing and needs, I would. But that's just not in the cards.

  2. I will be honest, I don’t know if you will notice a HUGE difference with the 1 degree flat, but I do know any golf shop worth anything will be able to adjust the lie and it shouldn’t be that expensive. I’d say getting them depends on how good of a deal they are.

Cant speak to the flat part of noticing, but I can speak to a 1 degree upright position and I very much noticed. After purchasing my T-150's from a secondary seller I trusted (for authenticity) I went to a Trackman bay and was generally hitting all my shots left about 5-10 yards and really struggling to keep it center. I'm not a scratch striker of the ball but do carry about a 9 and love me some range time and know how to work the ball a bit so it just seemed I was fighting the clubs somewhat. I was also concerned that my previous iron set (718 AP-3's) went little further than the 150's given the same basic lofts of all the clubs. Went in after my session to have my lofts checked at Club Champion (yeah, I know but I have a friend) and every club was off loft wise 1-2 degrees weak (WOW). I also had mentioned to him my issue about left shot biased and he checked the lie and sure enough, 1-2 degrees upright as well. He said, that'll do it every time. Got them rebent back to spec normal/normal and went back to Trackman bay and BOOM, numbers were back on carry but also a marked ease of getting them straight without the left bias. Plus the club looked way more normal at address for height and to my eye. FYI

Yes, they can be adjusted. Taking them to a PGA Superstore you can hit them with a Trackman and get feedback on what adjustments will work best for you. Might even find out you may do better with a different shaft.
